STRAINS BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS FOR MUSHROOMS PEST CONTROL

1. Main characteristics, description of the offer.

The selected strain is used as the basis of bacterial product to combat fungal midge while cultivating mushrooms. The technology for insecticidal bacterial product was developed. As components of the nutrient medium inexpensive and easy available ingredients are used, resulting in a low cost of the biological product. The experimental samples of the product were obtained. Being applied the product leads to the death of fungal midge larvae. The concentration of bacterial cells is more than 109 CFU / ml, spores — more than 107 CFU / ml insecticidal parasporal crystals — around 70%. The strain is not pathogenic to humans and does not adversely affect the growth of fungi and the formation of the plant.
2. Innovations and advantages of the offer. Patent search and market substitutes’ comparative analysis.

To combat mushrooms’ pests the fumigation of facilities is conducted before seeding mushrooms. Filters and nets and apply to prevent the penetration of insects. The use of pesticides in the cultivation of mushrooms is unacceptable because of their danger to human health and the negative impact on the development of fungi.

In Russia the bacterial product named Baktokulitsyd, originally designed to combat blood-sucking mosquito larvae, is recommended to combat fungal midge while growing mushrooms. Bacterial agents have a relatively narrow spectrum of efficiency as the fungal midge (Diptera mycetophagy) there are at least 10 families and Baktokulitsyd is not valid specifically against B. pilistriata.

The applications for patents of Ukraine on insecticidal strain method of making bacterial product and its use for anti-fungal midge in cultivating oyster mushrooms are under registration now.

3. Domain of application. Potential customers of the final product / service.

The final product can be applied to implement at farms and agricultural companies. It can also be used in medical production facilities for the creation, production and quality control of drugs for medical purposes.

4. Profitability, market attractiveness, introduction and sales costs, price.

Economical attractiveness of the product is based on the presence of a new strain of insect on which set of low-cost technology for the control of bacterial drug for controlling fungus midge population within economically safe levels was developed. Estimated cost of the biological product obtained in the laboratory is 48.70 UAH per liter. Upon setting up an industrial production of microbial drug its cost may be lower. An approbation tests were conducted at fungi farms in Ovidiopil region of Odessa Oblast.

5. Current stage of development. Existent results of introduction.

The experimental samples of bacterial drug to combat fungal midge were manufactured and tested. The  recommendations on the use of bacterial drug to combat fungal midge were apllied on 200 oyster mushroom blocks in a farm in Ovidiopil region of Odessa Oblast.
