BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR ELIMINATION OF WATER OIL POLLUTION

1. Main characteristics, description of the offer.

Biotechnology involves the use of a biological product (immobilized by special technology on a natural organic substrates nonpathogenic bacteria-destructors genus Pseudomonas, produced from the natural environment). Biological product reveals a sorption and destructive activity against hydrocarbons. The method is intended for use in environmental biotechnology  for protection of salted and freshwater.

The first phase of the elimination of contaminated oil and petroleum areas means application of technical means – barriers, oil-collectors and sorbents. The second phase the elimination of iridescent oil film, which remains after mechanical collection, the biologic product is applied. It is applied to the oil slick with a thin layer manually or by air spray devices on piers or vessels.

2. Innovations and advantages of the offer.

Sorption of oil is carried out in the first few minutes after applying the product while the cleaning efficiency of water surface stays high and reaches 80% or more. The remedy does not require a recollection that ensures destruction of petroleum hydrocarbons in the environment.

Using biotechnology can provide in the short term:

- Block oil pollution and prevent its spread;

- Eliminate contamination with minimal environmental damage;

- Provide further prolonged action due to the introduction of natural biocenose of bacteria-destructors hydrocarbons;

- Intensify the processes of restoration of natural biomes in attracting and stimulating self-cleaning mechanisms.

3. Patent search and market substitutes’ comparative analysis.

Comparative analysis made on the basis of patent search shows that the combination of essential features of the technical solutions the developed environmentally friendly biotechnology surpasses existing analogues on the degree and speed of cleaning the water surface from film of oil pollution, especially in extreme situations. Technical and economic characteristics of biotechnology make it competitive in the global market for biotechnologies of similar purpose.

4. Domain of application. Potential customers of the final product / service.

Biotechnology can be realized can be applied for implementation in oil-producing, refining, chemical and steel plants, as well as public and private environmental and nature conservation organizations, businesses waste disposal and elimination of pollution, agricultural enterprises. Development can be used at wastewater treatment plants in commercial ports.

5. Profitability, market attractiveness, introduction and sales costs, price.

The developed microbial biotechnology of elimination of the film of oil pollution on the water surface is ecologically and economically feasible, does not require the use of expensive imported equipment and materials.

6. Current stage of development. Existent results of introduction.

The innovation is currently on the stage of an inventions and it is protected by patents of Ukraine The methodological guidelines for using biotechnology to clean water surface from a film of oil pollution are developed. The environment tests of the developed biotechnology were carried in the conditions of liquidation of a film of oil pollution on the water surface.
